This part is hand checked with no machine washing. Checked in front and behind pump gears for scratches, as well as on pump body. There may be visible scratches on this part but will be smooth to the touch. Any tangible cuts are rejected. Outside of pump body is exposed cast iron and easily accumulates rust, this area is on the outside of the transmission and doesn’t harm the rebuilding process, so rust in the front of the body passes inspection.
